Fall River Archers was born in 1973 when a few ambitious archers formed the club procured a piece of land from the corps of engineers and built a range .
There are only a few surviving members of the original group, many of there children and grandchildren belong and are still active in the club today.
Field archery is not prevelent in this club presently, although the outdoor range is still kept up and meets the required inspections of the NFAA . Club members have opted for mostly animal target shooting on the range during the summer league season.
Back in the eighties the club started a new path, and bought many three 3-d turkeys and started the annual 3-d turkey shoot that we still host every year.
As with all clubs there is ups and downs in the membership and interest in the club as people get burned out and or move on to things they felt more important in there lives. The club hit that low in the 90's and almost dis-banded.
A few past members along with a few currant members got together and discussed what to do. In the end we took what might be called a leap of faith in that no one knew whether it would work or not.
The club borrowed enough money to buy all sorts of 3-ds as well as soliciting the Pittman and Robertson fund from the state for money for targets as well as equipment , so that we could spread the wonderful world of archery to those whom were interested.
We started with the turkey shoot and had a shoot every month of the summer and then started the cabin fever shoot in febuary every year.
Soon we had everything paid for and could relax a little, we've backed off on our shoots a little and just have the cabin fever in febuary. The turkey shoot the weekend before turkey season starts and our two-day shoot in June.
The last couple of years we've been shooting 3-ds indoors all winter as a club and have enjoyed having a lot of new faces show up to shoot and have a great time.
Also the winter indoor range is used by the 4-H kids for there archery instructional courses.
The Fall River Archers have given there time and the use of equipment and targets to instruct groups like the boy scouts, women in the outdoors, and other organized family events to instruct people of all walks of life, in archery.
Fall River Archers and Prairie States Traditional Bowhunters will be co-hosting the 2008 North American Longbow Safari, June 28-29. This is a longbow only/broadhead only shoot that longbow enthusiasts from all parts of the world gather to enjoy.
