Prairie States Traditional Bowhunters                                                                                In 1995 a group of traditional archers gathered to share equipment ideas, hunting strategies and the community of enjoying "old time" archery.

From this gathering, Prairie States Traditional Bowhunters was born.  It was decided that the organization should be a means of getting together annually, at the least, to continue the sharing that was created at the first meeting.  An annual shoot was the excuse to gather.  Those in attendance agreed that each person should bring a target and be responsible for its removal at the end of the event. Some type of equipment making or hunting strategy would be shared at each gathering. Political agendas would be left to other existing organizations.

The summer of 1995 was the first shoot . Ingenious home made targets became the primary focus. Prizes were given for the "best" and the "worst" targets. Almost everyone in attendance brought a "gift" to be given in a drawing at the end of the event.

Since then the PSTB shoot has been held in Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota.  It has developed into "the most unorganized traditional shoot" around .  Home made targets are still the primary focus of the shooting.  There are always enough "gifts" to give to every participant.  Young people and kids shoot free to allow more of them to attend.  A large communal meal is shared after the first day of shooting. Game meat is often the primary food.

Because of the sharing and work of all members and participants, Prairie States Traditional Bowhunters continues to flourish.   The annual gatherings are much anticipated by all who have attended.
